Newly Launched HempWood -- a Paint Industry Product Revival After more than two years in research and development Hempola Valley Farms officially launched its first hempseed oil based industrial product today... HempWood. It's a pure, natural and safe finishing oil, primarily used for different wood applications, and also performs well as a lacquer on other surfaces like metal and painted materials.
Hempseed oil was widely used in the paint and coatings industry up until the 1930s, when hemp fell into disfavor due to its unjustified association with marijuana. "We knew from our earlier research, that hemp oil was a candidate for industrial applications," states Kelly Smith, co-founder of Hempola Valley Farms, "this new finishing oil opens up a whole new set of opportunities for our exciting emerging industry."
HempWood provides a relatively clear coating which enriches and protects wood grains. The product has produced excellent results when applied to exterior walls and decks, furniture, antiques, interior floors... even canoes, paddles and as a clear lacquer on metal and painted surfaces. The reconstructed heritage barn at Hempola Valley Farms has had two coats applied to its new pine siding, "it's a glowing golden beacon in the village we're settled in." comments Kelly Smith of Hempola. Research and development of HempWood was partially funded by Canada's National Research Council.
