80 Chefs Relish in Hempola.

Orillia, Ontario; at their monthly meeting last night at the Kewadin Inn, approximately eighty members and guests of the Muskoka Association of Chefs were treated to dinner featuring Hempola foods. A delightful combination of pastas, marinades, salads and baked items were served... all prepared using Hempola cold pressed hempseed oil and hempseed flour. For many of these well known culinary professionals, it was first exposure to the delicious flavours and nutrition of hemp food.

Then to top it all off, Mr. Greg Herriott, Co-founder of Hempola gave a short presentation on these emerging new agri-foods. "What a setting and what an audience," stated Herriott, "it was the perfect scenario where influential people ate Hempola foods and were really impressed with flavours; and after hearing about the excellent, non allergic proteins and Omega essential fatty acids in hemp -- they were completely sold." It was a perfect evening for discovering new and wonderful foods grown and produced in Canada.

National Television Network Reports on the Health Benefits of Hemp Food.

Over the past several days, one of Canada's leading television networks -- CTV -- has televised nationally an informative news story on the virtues and health benefits of hemp food.

In this news segment, Jennifer Tryon, Food Reporter for CTV states, "hemp oil comes from harvesting hemp seeds. They contain the perfect balance of Omega 3 and Omega 6 essential fatty acids scarcely found in other foods. It's also high in the same protein that's found in eggs. These seeds will be pressed into a drum of hemp oil and hemp flour to be used in salad dressings, pancake mix, pasta... there's even hemp ice cream." Visuals for the broadcast were shot at Hempola Valley Farms in early September, 2001.

The lead-in to the story highlights Mr. Harry Barnes, Canada's top masters triathlete and avid user of Hempola products to boost his performance and the story also features an interview with Hempola's Greg Herriott. He states, "hemp is not pot, hemp is good fat with essential fatty acids or, hemp is good protein."

Step by step, the world is discovering hemp as a bountiful and healthful food source.

Our Friends at Cool Hemp Gave Us the News... Read This!

[If you already received this news, we apologize, however, it really is an excellent accomplishment. We applaud Dr. Callaway and his efforts over the years.]

IT'S OFFICIAL!
HEMPSEED OIL PRODUCES DRAMATIC INCREASE IN BLOOD LEVEL GLA

The Hemp Food Industries Association, Europe's leading Hemp Food specialists are proud to announce the world's first clinical trial results on hempseed oil.

Due to a collaboration between Dr. Jace Callaway Ph.D. and MotherHemp, the UK's leading Hemp Food suppliers, the results of clinical trials investigating the potential of hempseed oil as a "functional food" has been announced. Dr. Callaway's team of medical researchers from the Departments of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Clinical Nutrition at the University of Kuopio, Finland, conducted their tests on a group of eight men and six women volunteers. Each of the participants took 2 tablespoons (30 ml) per day of either hempseed oil or linseed oil for a period of four weeks.

This was followed by a four week wash-out period, when neither oil was taken, followed by a further four weeks taking the other oil. The oils were cold pressed under nitrogen from hempseed and linseed grown in Finland the previous year. All volunteers kept detailed food diaries and were given instructions to decrease their intake of saturated fats throughout the study.

Results showed dramatic increases of blood GLA from hempseed oil but significant decreases of blood GLA from linseed oil. The Finnish researchers found statistically significant differences between these two food oils relative to each other and to the wash out period of the study. Consumption of hempseed oil - in this case oil pressed from the Finola variety of hemp - resulted in statistically higher levels of GLA, up by 57% in the triglycerides and 52% in the cholesteryl esters, compared to the wash out period.

Consumption of linseed oil resulted in a net decrease of GLA, down by 23% in the triglycerides and 34% in the cholesteryl esters, compared to the wash out period.  Both oils showed statistically significant increases in blood levels of both linoleic acid (the essential omega-6 fatty acid) and alpha-linolenic acid.

"This was a prospective study with healthy volunteers who had slightly high cholesterol levels.  We were surprised to see the dramatic increases in blood levels of GLA from the hempseed oil, and especially the statistically significant decreases of blood GLA from the linseed oil," says Dr Callaway.

"Increased serum levels of GLA might help explain some of the numerous anecdotal reports of seemingly miraculous cures frompeople taking hempseed oil, particularly those suffering from chronic health problems such as allergies, dry skin, slow wound healing and even rheumatoid arthritis."

Jake Yearsley, General Manager MotherHemp, commented: "As with vitamins, the human body can't make these two fatty acids (Omega 3 and Omega 6).  They are essential to health and must be obtained from our daily diet."

Paul Benhaim, Author of H.E.M.P.- Healthy Eating Made Possible, Managing Director of Hemp Foods Australia and head of the Hemp Food Industries Association states: "Dr Callaway has shown the only way forward for Hemp Foods- proven clinical trials," he continues "now we have peer reviewed tests to confirm what we have been saying for many years."

The Nutrition Results are In -- Hempola Pancakes Deliver More Protein Per Serving than the
Average Protein Bar.

Barrie, Ontario, Canada.
The laboratory analysis is final and further substantiates another breakthrough product from Hempola Valley Farms... a new pancake mix which delivers an exceptional amount of protein with each serving. Agriculture Canada's recommended serving size for any pancake mix is 125 grams; or 4 to 5 pancakes. With Hempola's new wheat-free pancake mix, each serving provides 25 grams of protein... more than the average protein-rich nutrition bar on the market today!

"We spent almost two years perfecting this product," comments Kelly Smith, Co-founder of Hempola. "Along with the high protein, each serving also provides thirty percent of the recommended daily intake of calcium and sixty-four percent of your required iron; besides that, these pancakes are really easy to make... just add water and a little Hempola oil." Ms. Smith goes on to say, "Our product development focuses on creating foods with exceptional nutrition from hempseeds. With our new pancakes, protein and minerals come from Hempola flour and when you pour Hempola oil on top, with maple syrup of course, you also eat your daily requirement of essential fatty acids; Omega 3, Omega 6 and GLA." This great new product will be available over the next few weeks in health food stores and health food sections of select grocery stores.

The Dust Has Settled from the Hempola Family Farm Festival.

Barrie, Ontario, Canada.
The results and tallies are in. The first family farm festival held
right in the hemp fields was an outstanding success. Even with the rain
on the second day of the two day event, people still came out... in part
to satisfy curiosity, in part for support and in part for the
entertainment. Some highlights include:
- Canadian Senator Lorna Milne arrived bright and early on Saturday
morning and gave an impromptu speech to the crowd as part of the opening
activities. Senator Milne was responsible for introducing a bill in the
Canadian Senate for the development the industrial hemp industry in
Canada.
- the guests polled were all very enthusiastic and many had no idea of
the diversity and product applications for hemp... from pancakes to
canoes.
- every vendor was enthusiastic and overly impressed with the
organization and general warm feeling which permeated the festival site.

- one of the biggest attractions was one of the simplest... the hay
rides through the hemp fields. A short presentation which focussed on
hemp education pre-empted the ride. There were always line-ups to hop on
the hay wagons.
- media attention was magnificent and all extremely positive; several
television, radio and print media reported on the event.

The people at Hempola are extremely satisfied with their first attempt.
"We more than surpassed our expectations and objectives with our first
festival," notes Kelly Smith, Co-founder of Hempola. "We set out to
design an event which would involve people of all ages to taste, touch,
smell and hear all the wonderful virtues of hemp... and experience these
things in a very fun atmosphere. We really look forward to next year's
festival... to apply many things we learned this year and introduce many
new ideas and products for all to enjoy."

Protein-rich Pasta is Latest New Food From Hempola Valley Farms.

"If the pancakes are liked by so many people, this pasta is a sure thing." These were the comments made by product development representatives from Canada's leading grocery chain as they reviewed and tasted a number of HEMPOLA products either in distribution or in various stages of development.

"It's an excellent product both in flavour and nutrition," comments Kelly Smith, Hempola's co-founder. "With our HEMPOLA hempseed flour in such large proportions in our new pasta, it's a high protein pasta instead of just carbohydrates found in most other pastas on the market." Similar to spinach pasta, these tasty new noodles are a rich dark green colour and lend themselves to a simple white sauce, tossed with oil, or pesto (or try the new and nutritious HEMPOLA pesto -- made with shelled hempseeds instead of pine nuts and HEMPOLA hempseed oil for rich flavour and high amounts of Omega 3, 6 and GLA essential fatty acids).

Earth Friendly Hemp Farm House Starts Construction.

Barrie, Ontario, Canada;
On a farm where hemp is grown and hempseed is cold pressed into
nutritious oil, a new homestead is being built. Sound unique? What's
more unique, is this new farm house is being built with hemp fibre. The
ground was broken this morning to commence digging of the foundation.

Hempola Valley Farms has commissioned designer / builder, Steve Nunn,
from Stann Creek, Belize, to create this unique, octagon shape
structure. Mr. Nunn states, "This is an excellent opportunity to build
something I've spent more than 15 years dreaming about. A house made
with nature's strongest renewable fibre, incorporating passive solar
heating, wind power generation and as many 'earth friendly' building
materials as possible." Steve Nunn has spent his life building unique
structures; primarily on the west coast in Oregon using standing
dead-wood logs as the primary structural material. Steve continues,
"nature's resources are rapidly dwindling. Part of the design objective
with this project is to demonstrate how to build a beautiful home with
pure, natural and environmentally responsible materials... it will be a
statement to this ideal."

Winning Triathlete Says Hemp Food is His Best Kept Secret.

Champion triathlete, Harry Barnes will be competing at the world
triathlon competition this coming July 22nd and ranks HEMPOLA Hempseed
Flour as one of his best kept secrets. It's the protein in HEMPOLA flour
which gives Harry his "punch." At a level of 41 percent concentration
and in an excellent protein combination of edistin -- the highest ranked
protein the plant kingdom -- and albumin, HEMPOLA flour can be eaten raw
or in any traditional cooked recipe.

As Harry describes, "I thought I had my diet 'down pat.' I was eating a
half dozen eggs a day plus a steak or lamb chop. I tried a large
tablespoon of HEMPOLA hemp flour in my rolled spelt flakes cooked slowly
for 20 minutes, plus HEMPOLA hempseed oil and spelt bread. My desire for
eggs, steak and lamb chops just disappeared. These last few weeks I've
been doing seventeen hours of hard swimming, biking and running per
week. My strength and mental state has improved."

He goes on, "Everyone today is talking about their best kept secret.
Well I hope my competition is slow to try this combination of HEMPOLA
flour and spelt flakes 'til after the world triathlon championships this
July 22nd weekend."

From now until Labour Day, Hempola Valley Farms will be open every day,
with the focus being their planned HEMPOLA Family Farm Festival, August

This special store, which carries a diverse line of products all

April 9, 2001

Exciting New Evidence Supports the "Functionality" of HEMPOLA Hempseed
Flour.

A preliminary report issued by the Agriculture Technical Information
Service (AgTIS) on the functional properties of hempseed protein states,

"hemp contains essential amino and fatty acids in an easily digestible
form and in a perfect ratio to meet human nutritional requirements. The
unique distinction of hempseed from other considered highly nutritional
seeds like flax, is that 65 percent of hempseed protein is the globulin
(water insoluble) protein edistin, which is the highest in the plant
kingdom. Albumin, which is water soluble makes up the remainder of
protein in hempseed."

Kelly Smith, co-founder of HEMPOLA comments, "these initial findings are
very positive. At HEMPOLA, since 1993, we've discovered and applied many
of the excellent nutritional attributes of HEMPOLA cold pressed hempseed
oil. Our research on the specifics of our flour are not as developed...
mainly because we only perfected the processing of HEMPOLA hempseed
flour in the early part of 2000. These initial nutritional discoveries
on hempseed protein composition are very exciting."

Additional excerpts from the study state, "edistins (also spelled
edestine) are plant globulins, and are classified as globular proteins.
Globulins perform many enzymatic functions within the plasma itself. The

human body uses globulin proteins to make antibodies that attack
infecting agents that invade the body." The study, which is scheduled
for completion in the near future will likely yield more valuable
information on the nutritional qualities of this wonderful, new "super
food."

For Immediate Release

Farm-based Pioneer of the Hemp Industry; HEMPOLA Continues Its Quest for
Perfection.

It's the year 1993; Kelly Smith and Greg Herriott, co-founders of
HEMPOLA begin research on the virtues and potential of industrial hemp,
with focus mainly on what the treasureful hempseed contains. 1995 --
design and development work begins on the company's first product,
HEMPOLA Cold Pressed Hempseed Oil, which was introduced to the market in
March, 1996.

Since then, the company has expanded its product line which currently
includes 27 different items, has just as many in its product development
pipeline and has invested and begun development of a 50 acre, heritage
farm; in transition for certified organic production.

The discoveries along the way, small and significant have been
extensive. One in particular leads HEMPOLA to believe their oil in the
next decade will become highly demanded by major food producers. And
this is why...

HEMPOLA is the only 100 percent pure, cold pressed vegetable oil with
extremely high amounts of nutritious, essential fatty acids (about 80
percent concentration) which survive on the store shelf for upwards of
twelve months, with no rancidity.

"When we started production with imported Chinese seed in 1996, we
averaged around 1.6 percent GLA (gamma linolenic acid) in our fatty acid
composition," states Kelly Smith. "With our latest Canadian grown hemp,
our GLA is now topping 4 percent. With the higher GLA, we have
significantly higher amounts of naturally occurring anti-oxidants; the
stability factor of HEMPOLA is outstanding. The food processing world is
now starting to discover this unique aspect of HEMPOLA. We expect great
gains in our production over the next few years."

For Immediate Release

HEMPOLA Makes U.S. Nationwide News -- North America is Waking Up to Hemp Nutrition.

What do the U.S. cities -- San Diego, Seattle, Raleigh, Buffalo, Tampa, Houston, Providence, Columbus, Salt Lake City and Oklahoma City have in common? They all highlighted HEMPOLA products on their major ABC News broadcasts.

With numerous visuals of HEMPOLA Hempseed Flour, Cold Pressed Hempseed Oil and Herbalicious Vinaigrette Salad Dressing; the news reported, "It has long been illegal to grow hemp in the United States. Now you can find it in salad dressings, flour and peanut butter. Hemp oil has a balance of the same essential fats found in foods like fish. These fats appear to help protect against heart disease and certain types of cancer."

The crew at HEMPOLA is heading to Anaheim, CA to set up for the Natural Product Expo West. This is the fourth year in a row for the HEMPOLA booth at the show; it runs March 9 to 11. We'll see what reactions we have to this media exposure.

Top Masters Triathlete in Canada Avidly Uses HEMPOLA in his Diet.

When 54-year-old Harry Barnes of Campbellville, ON takes the podium this coming Saturday evening to accept his hard-earned award for top male masters triathlete in Canada, the people at HEMPOLA will be proud to know HEMPOLA Cold Pressed Hempseed Oil, however minutely, helped Harry do it. The award encompasses all Canadian male triathletes over the age of 40.

Through studies published in various medical journals, it is shown that a well-balanced intake of essential fatty acids (EFAs), particularly Omega 3, Omega 6 and gamma-linoleic acid (GLA), improve the transport of oxygen into human cells. As well, EFAs improve the transport of lactic acid out of cells. Result: increased energy and quicker recovery times for athletes!

Harry states, "when I'm in full gear with my training I consume almost a full bottle of HEMPOLA (270 mL) a week. I really believe in the product." HEMPOLA cold pressed hempseed oil has an eighty percent concentration of these powerful EFAs and what's reputed to be an ideal ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3.

Erin Davis Does a Great Job Hosting HEMPOLA.

On her television show this week, Erin Davis warmly welcomed Greg
Herriott of HEMPOLA and conducted an excellent interview for her
viewers.

Very upbeat and informative, the interview first dispelled the myth
between hemp food and marijuana; Greg Herriott used his hot pepper vs.
sweet pepper scenario to explain this one (Herriott states, "a hot
pepper contains a molecule which produces the hot spicy flavour, a sweet
pepper doesn't have this molecule -- although both plants are the same
botanical species. In marijuana, there is a molecule which causes the
psycho-active affect... it makes you high; in hemp this molecule does
not exist. Here too, both plants are the same botanical species.").

Beyond that, the interview focused on the various health attributes and
excellent flavour characteristics of hemp oil and hemp flour. Many, many
HEMPOLA products were there for Erin to try; she really enjoyed dipping
the hemp bread in HEMPOLA's newly introduced Omega Prima Cold Pressed
Hempseed Oil. Erin described it, "very green, very fresh looking...
sunflowery... walnut... very nice."

Thanks Erin, for such a warm response.
