November 1999
ANNOUNCING Hempola Valley Farms Ltd., completion date, March, 1999. Phase 1 on this 50 acre site will see the complete renovation of a 100 plus year-old barn to accommodate HEMPOLA's current processing, R&D and office requirements (approx. 10,000 sq. ft.). Also on-site will be 40 acres of cultivated hemp, a variety research plot, retail sales and an interpretive centre. The location is golden -- at a major intersection on a major highway just north of Toronto, Canada. It's in the heart of tourist, recreation and agriculture country. Education is vital; the site with its historical perspective and real-live crops will be a "Mecca," ideally suited for on-going education activities for the public such as school tours, seminars, product demonstrations, hiking/biking trails, etc. This development will positively add to the interesting mosaic of tourism and product offerings already in the area and unique to Canada. Look out Jolly Green Giant!

September 1999
Another HEMPOLA public field day, Saturday, September 25, 1999 at Al and Shirley Meech's farm. The main reason for this event was to provide a special day for the Hemp Industries Association's Annual Conference held in Hockley Valley, Ontario, Canada. Approximately 200 people attended... standing tall in one of HEMPOLA's hemp fields. Special guest speaker, Dr. Ernie Small (pictured here at the podium) delivered an excellent talk on hemp botanical history and commercial potential. Dr. Small is with Agriculture Canada and started studying and working with industrial hemp in 1971. He is considered to be one of, or THE leading expert on hemp botany in the world! Other speakers of note were OMAFRA's Bill Baxter, Hempola Inc.'s Greg Herriott and Kenex's Jean Laprise. As our national anthem sings, "Oh Canada, the true north strong and free."

The new HEMPOLA salad dressings are taking the markets by storm!
Over 400 Wild Oats stores across the U.S.A. will be carrying all three flavors. Their product evaluation comments state, "very different, good tasting, full of essential fatty acids -- what more could you ask from your salad dressing?" Since introduction in April, 1999, these delicious and incredibly nutritious HEMPOLA dressings are an overwhelming success. Two years and three months in development resulted in THE FIRST salad dressings which have a strong nutritional factor -- the perfect combination of essential fatty acids found in HEMPOLA cold-pressed hempseed oil. The dressings actually increase the nutrition value of your salad fixins'.

Check out the brand new family of re-formulated HEMPOLA body care products.
We spent an entire year making sure the formulations were absolutely all-natural. In terms of active ingredients, we combined efforts with Beata Zaranek, a registered massage therapist who trained in Poland and manages 3 massage therapy clinics in Canada. Among other things, Beata made sure that the essential oil combinations were active and powerful to enhance the therapeutic value of the products.

What The Streets Saying About Hempola| page up |

"...'Lips are very sensitive to the sun, and skin cancer on the lips behaves more aggressively than other skin cancers on the face,' says Dr. Nowell Solish, co-director of dermatological surgery at the University of Toronto. To make sure that your lips are not only protected but also moisturized, lip balm with hempseed oil is a good bet. Hempseed oil is the richest plant source of essential fatty acids, which are readily absorbed into dry, chapped lips."
Anjali Kapoor, Homemaker's Magazine; Summer 1999 issue.

"Recommendations of the expert panel for nutrient levels in infant formula state a ratio of Linoleic acid (Omega 6): Alpha-linolenic acid (Omega 3) be 6:1."
Nutraceuticals World magazine; July/August 1999.

"One can develop w6 (Omega 6) deficiency by using only flax oil for too long. Hemp seed oil can be used over the long term to maintain a healthy EFA balance without leading to either EFA deficiency or imbalance."
Dr. Udo Erasmus, author; Fats that Heal Fats that Kill.

"The n-6 (Omega 6) fatty acids should be at least 3% of energy and the n-3 (Omega 3) fatty acids at least 0.5% of energy with a ratio of n-6 to n-3 in the range of 4:1 to 10:1."
Health Canada Nutrition Recommendations; The Report of the Scientific Review Committee, 1990.

"Hemp seeds can be ground into a rich, nutty tasting flour (45 per cent protein) that adds a unique culinary and healthy twist to your baking. The flour is gluten free and has been approved by the celiac society as a safe ingredient for anyone suffering from this disorder." Kelly Smith; excerpt from article published in Alive magazine, August 1999.
"I also recommend hemp... Actually, I think hemp is superior to flax, given its chemical composition. If you have a chance to try hemp oil, a forgotten newly discovered food, I think you will see why I am enthusiastic."
Dr. Andrew Weil, M.D.

"For many people suffering from problems as varied as fatigue, allergies, arthritis (or just aches and pains), dry skin, premenstrual syndrome, and severe menstrual cramps, or for those who are interested in achieving and maintaining a high level of wellness, the right EFA balance is a key step."
Dr. Leo Gallard, author; Power Healing and Director of the Foundation for Integrated Medicine in New York, NY.

"Hempseed oil is a functional food that ensures an adequate intake of essential fatty acids and amino acids."
Kelly Smith; excerpt from article published in Alive magazine, August 1999.

"The present level of total fat, and particularly of saturated fat, in the Canadian diet constitutes a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and possibly for certain other diseases including some forms of cancer."
Health Canada Nutrition Recommendations; The Report of the Scientific Review Committee, 1990.
